Anchorage, Alaska is a wonderful place to raise a family. When compared to other metropolitan cities, Anchorage is is quite small. However, considering its size, Anchorage has much to offer its residents. Anchorage, Alaska is officially named Municipality of Anchorage.  Its nickname is “The City of Lights and Flowers.” The city’s motto is “Big Wild Life.”  Anchorage is Alaska’s biggest city with over 270,000 residents. The city of Anchorage makes more than 40% of the state’s population.  Anchorage, Alaska has been named All-America City four times. Once in 1956, then in 1965, in 1984-1985, and then in 2002, by the National Civic League.

Anchorage, Alaska is the 87th largest district in the United States with over 40,000 students attending 88 schools.  After high school, students can choose to get a higher education degree at one of the four facilities located in Anchorage, Alaska: UAA-The University of Alaska Anchorage, Charter College, Alaska Pacific University, and the Anchorage campus of Texas-based Wayland Baptist University.

Wildlife:

In Anchorage, Alaska there is plenty of wildlife to be seen. People often sight moose and/or bears in their backyards! Approximately 300 bears live in the area. This is comprised of 250 black bears and 60 grizzly bears.  Moose are an all too common guest on our streets, searching for food and company during the long winters. In Anchorage there are an estimated 250 moose in the summer and 1000 moose in the winter. Moose can be a hazard to drivers and vice versa. Many moose are killed by cars each year. Moose can be a danger to people, often charging at hikers, bikers, and bystanders. Other wildlife that one might sight in Anchorage are wolves and beavers.

 

Anchorage Real Estate Market:

Compared to much of the real estate markets in other parts of the nation, the Anchorage Real Estate Market is fairly strong. The price of homes have not had the dramatic fluctuation as seen in some parts of the U.S.  Over the course of the last year, home values have remained relatively stable. Homes in the lower price ranges are still selling, with an average marketing time of less than 4 months. Homes in the higher priced ranges are, as expected, taking longer to sell.  Homes that are priced over $1,000,000 have an average marketing time of over 18 months. Of course, getting your home sold is not just a matter of price. Presentation and marketing are key components in getting your home sold in today’s real estate market.
